Default Dancing in DR - salsa/batchata/merengue

Where do we find the best places for dancing in DR? We are 4 girls spending nearly 4 weeks travelling on the island, and dancing WILL be the number one activity there. We've all been dancing salsa for quite a while (1-5 years) and consider us self to be hard core salsadancers ) Any recommendations? Any places we can go for live music (salsa, batchata or merengue - or reggaethon).

4 weeks. I'm jealous! You will actually have to go somewhere for salsa, but there are lot's of places. As far as merengue and bachata are concerned, sometimes it is harder to get away from it than to find it. The music literally eminates from every pore of the country.

Your "issues" may be more with where to find the kind of dance partners you are lookin for than a dance floor and good music. I'll have to defer to the female board members here, as i generally bring my partner, and when I go solo, I'm looking for a woman to dance with.

In POP, which is my stomping ground, I could recomment 3 places that play a mix of the music you mentioned. La Canita, Patio de Johnny, and La Barrica.
