Default Hospitals

Are there any hospitals in Puerto Plata? I've never seen any. What do you do if you have a medical emergency? Heart attact, stroke, etc. Are the hospitals in the DR competent.

Centro Medico Dr. Bournigal or Gregorio Luperon are the hospitals most foreigners use in Puerto Plata. Your hotel will know about hospitals. I assume you are a tourist since if you lived here you would know about hospitals. If they suggest Ricardo Limado.............opt for Centro Medico! And have health insurance for your trip if you think you might have heart attack.

I agree with Lambada that Centro Medico Bournigal is the best in Puerto Platafor emergency care.

With respect to your question re the competency of the hospitals in the DR, like everywhere, some are more competent than others. The most competent are in Santo Domingo, but Centro Medico Bournigal is a good choice in an emergency. However, when you are stabilized well enough to travel, I would consider going to a hospital like Clinica Abreu in Santo Domingo by helicopter or ambulance, or air evac to the US.

Default Just be sure that

You have a good insurance deal, one that include med evac in case of need.

In the Puerto Plata Area the Bouringal Clinic is probably one of the best options. I do think that Dr Redondo is an alternative.

From there, Santiago, where, depending on what your conditions is, you could go to any of four good places, including Corominas, Centro Medico Cibao or Union Medica.. They are all close together.

If you need a list of specialists for your particular problem, send me an email or a PM and I'll look them up.
