Man, Larry...what are you drinking down there?
A beauty contest is nothing more than a glorified display of shallow women parading almost naked for the men, like you, to drool over them!
Beauty is something that should be looked for INSIDE a person, man or woman, not on the flesh...
One day all these BEAUTIFUL women will become OLD and NOBODY will remember them or want them for that matter...like some of you guys are always saying...
You guys are so unbelievably...oh, never mind...it's almost Christmas... I want all of my presents!

I am so glad that you do not represent the predominant thinking in the DR. It's a friggin' beauty contest. If you don't like it, don't watch it.
Better yet...go start an "enlightened woman" contest.

Well, as it happens, Dominicans also make these comments about the white beauty queens not being typical Dominicans. Yesterday's El Nacional has three quotes from 'bystanders' and one goes as follows (my translation):
"Despite the fact that most Dominicans are black (sic), none of the beautiful black girls were among the finalists".
Now, as I typed this out and noted the use of the words 'negra' and 'negritas' by the person quoted, whose name is not provided, it made me wonder whether it was a Dominican or foreign bystander who actually made this statement. Take it from me though, I have heard many Dominicans make similar comments.

Well, I am curious why nobody else complained about the lack of a stray dog selected like I pointed out....I mean seriously Chiri, there are a LOT of stray dogs here aren't they? And no one speaks for them. I mean, it's not their fault they cant talk. Besides, MQ says it is all about "inner beauty" anyway. Can't a stray dog have inner beauty? Hmmmmmmmm?
I mean, why doea a beauty pageant have to be about beauty anyway? Isnt that discriminitory against ugly people? Lets all march on capital hill or lay down in the street in protest. Remove "beauty" from the dictionary.

I think a goat would be better. It'd probably have nicer hair and a higher IQ.

I am sure you have heard such comments. But those people do not permeate the society.
Most Dominicans are black but how often do you see a "negro" or "negrita" in a commercial for anything besides the lottery? Look at the billboards throughout the Capital. It's almost funny. Back to the ladies...
It is a contest. Nothing more. Maybe not many black women enter...maybe they don't care...maybe it is expensive to enter(like politics)...who knows!
My comment was directed more towards MQ's comment about how useless and dumb the girls are. So what? Most stars of pop-culture are popular for all the wrong reasons and fizzle out into obscurity when their time is up. So what?

Scandall...
I have to admit I don't know anything about you...but you speak as if you were Dominican...or living in the DR for most of your life...
How do you know that "those people do not permeate the society"? Maybe you are also one of the 'high and mightys' that do not associate with that type of 'society'...but believe me, I do...and they DO permeate...

That's my point exactly...Don't you think that is DISCRIMINATORY against ALL the Dominican Blacks? What are they trying to show? They are only covering the sun with their fingers...
And you are right, not many black girls enter because it's expensive...they do it on purpose so that they WON'T enter...Only the ones that have a 'padrino' that sponsors them and pays for everything can enter...Usually the white girls...
I know it's a contest...and about your comment about my post regarding how

I only mentioned it because MOST OF THE MEN HERE are drooling over yet another WHITE, SLENDER, BEAUTIFUL (on the outside) young girl to win a STUPID CONTEST... If you are so aware that they 'fizzle out into obscurity' why do you make such an effort to fight me in what I'm saying?
And Larry...YOU HAVE WAY TOO MUCH TIME IN YOUR HANDS...
Go buy some Christmas presents or something...

For a second I thought you were talking about yourself. nevermind.
Funny the women who are over the hill always have these comments to make. The pretty girls are not complaining.
MQ just becuase you like black dominicans (ex: Jobless tony) doesn't mean you have to put down a beautiful miss dominican republic 2006.
Like it or love it, this girl is hot and the cibao valley is full of them. If you only leave your tony's ghettto and spend some time in moca, santiago etc, you will see that many girls are even more prettier than her. DR is not a whole ghetto like you seem to think it is.
Have a nice day.

So, men drool over beautiful women. Again...so what?
Yes. They are beautiful and more than likely stupid. So what?
Sorry. But you just sound like a bitter woman.
PS...asking you repeatedly "So what?" is not really putting up a huge effort.
FYI: No, I am not Dominican and have not lived here most of my life.

I've noticed, and many Dominicans are fully aware of this too.
I don't think any of us have the definitive answer as to whether it's 'some' or 'most' who think it's right, wrong or neutral. It's just an observation on my part, anyway.
If a mainly white country picked an ethnic minority beauty queen every single year, or almost every year as is the case in the DR, it would be commented on as well.
'Some' Dominicans are like the teacher in a current thread who picked out the lighter skinned children to pose for the tourist's photo. According to the tourist's guide, she didn't want people in his home country to think the DR was 'like an African country'. Then you have 'some' others who want a more accurate reflection of what the people look like.
Which group is in the majority?

I have an idea. Since it is a beauty pageant, let's pick the most beautiful girls. Thats a novel idea, dont you think?
Judging by the photos I saw, I think they did a pretty good job.
