Default to: Asopao, on the haitian massacre by Trujillo

[quote=asopao;583373]Everybody commemorates Mirabal Sisters, victims of Trujillo. Why? because they were " blanquitas" perhaps? What about the tens of thousands of ethnic Haitians that were massacred in 1937? No monument, or no museum to remember these innocent victims of that animal, Trujillo, too?

What about turning Edwige Dandicat's book " The Farming of Bones" into a movie too?

About "The Farming of Bones" book: yes, it would be very interesting to see a film based on that book, about the haitian massacre by Trujillo, from a haitian's perspective. Another book that could also be turned into a movie (if a willing film producer is found) is "Massacre River", published in 2005 by the haitian writer Rene Philoctete.

This thread is dedicated to the Mirabal sisters, not to Trujillo other cruel misdeeds. Perhaps it might be of interest if you start a new thread about The Farming of the Bones. It all sounds very sad from the info you gave.

Here is an article on Dede, and how the sisters are being commemorated

A new film is in production about the Mirabal sisters called "Trópico de Sangre". Being filmed in the Dominican Republic and Michelle Rodriguez is in the starring role. Expected release date sometime next year 2009.
