Angry tired of fusilamientos(in music)

There was an article in the Listin Diario saying that half of bachata is " fusilamientos" from Colombian Vallenato ( this is no surprise), and from baladas from other countries. Not only bachata, but many merengues as well.

Fusilajes( or fusilamientos), sound beautiful, yes, but THEY ARE NOT DOMINICAN. and this is what upsets me. I'm tired of some Colombian or some Mexican having to throw in our faces that " you copy from us".

Dominican bachateros and merengueros got to come with more original, native stuff. I don't even play " fusilamientos" when I throw a party, unless is native fusilamientos. It is time for Dominican composers and musicians to stop copying lyrics, I know that there is talent out there to come out with good original lyrics !!

Milly Quezada and Hector Acosta are two of the names that stand out. They have made a killing on songs they have "fucilado" in the past. There have been some songs that I think are 100% Dominican (lyrics, music) to later find out that it's actually another's aritst's song from another country. Also, there are some fucilamentos that are done exceptionally well and the fucilamiento sounds much better than the original.

VERY INTERSTING TOPIC INDEED.

While I certainly support the idea of creating new original material by Dominican musicians in merengue and bachata, I have to say I'm not a purist. I like the result of some of remakes from other genres in particular Michel's salsa versions of the following:

Wonderful World
YouTube - MICHEL - Salsa - What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

Cuando los sapos bailan flamenco
YouTube - Michel el Buenón de Santo Domingo

I know he was criticized in that article but I think he's an original.

Default Talent and creativity lacking in tropical music-

I am not sure if this merits so much frustration because what has been happening in merengue and bachata is nothing new. However, I would say more so in the past twelve years than ever before. Unfortunately, some of the top bachatas are vallenato remakes which, I think does discredit the artist's talent and capability to some degree. Some of remakes are well done however, originality and creativity in music speaks volumes when assessing musical talent. Many Dominican artists remake the original songs that are now popular bachatas and merengues. Artists that come to mind readily:

-Héctor Acosta (and the former Los Toros Band)- their most popular bachatas are vallenato remakes
-Kiko Rodríguez
-El Chaval
-Raulín Rodríguez
-Joe Veras- maybe. I don't recall too many of his songs being remakes. He is quite unique.
-Monchy & Alexandra- although they are a good bachata duo, they have no originality at all. Half their repertoire is vallenato classics.

This is just another reminder of the gap in talent today. While the older merengue groups who represented the genre for years and should have been the precursors for the upcoming future talent, the cream of crop has been scarce. The lack of talent will continue and true talent will be limited to a select few groups or artists who don’t need to build their career on remaking other people's songs. Salsa too lacks the same creativity except for Cuban salsa by prime artists like Issac Delgado and Adalberto Alvarez. Not only are these two talented artists but they are unique and are fine representatives of their genre el son cubano and salsa.

I think Aventura it's the only bachata group that ballenato groups copy their bachatas from.

I understand why they do these remakes, it is easy, you don't have to crack your head trying to come out with original lyrics, and people like them, thus, they sell in presentations at clubs, restaurants, etc. I mean, look at Luis Miguel remaking rancheras, and copying from Carlos Gardel from Argentina, he was selling. But at the end of the day, they're not leaving a mark in history, there are no bragging rights, no true recognition. You are just " one more copion".

Yeah, the few good lyrics that are native in Dominican music, have spread out, for example, " la ventanita" , I don't know who wrote that, but Sergio Vargas sings it, was remade by Garibaldi of Mexico.

" Pegame tu Vicio", interpreted by Anthony Santos( we know the story of the fight ), is another example of some good original lyrics from DR. Why can't composers keep it up and make up new, original stuff like that, that will bring pride to DR??

There are so many songs, that people don't even know that are fusilajes, and is hard to find on the internet which songs is fusilage or not, if you don't listen to the genres that they've copied from ( vallenato, ranchera, cumbia, etc). Perhaps somebody got to come up with FUSILAJE.COM
, they can show a list of all the songs that have been remade.

S*t, I thought that " Cal y Arena" was original by Diony Fernandez, and I was so proud of its lyrics as being " Dominican", LOL. Now that I know is just one more fusilaje, I don't want to even listen to it anymore !
