There are a lot of talented, classically trained musicians in DR, but if they didn't play the local music, they would starve. Here are some:
Sax: Sandy Gabriel, Crispin Fernandez, Jose Manuel Rivera (Tulile)
Bass: Isaias LeClerc
Guitar: Martires De Leon
Piano: Juan Valdez, Leo Pimentel, Dionis Fernandez
Trumpet: Rodhen Santos, Jose Luis Mateo
Latin Percussion: Juan De La Cruz (Chocolate)
Acordeon: Francisco Ulloa, Krency Garcia (El Prodigio)
There are plenty more that can be mentioned, but that's a start.
If you guys want Dominican salseros, Cuco Valoy is the godfather of the Dominican soneros. Here are some more that haven't been mentioned:
Ray Reyes
Santiago Ceron
Henry Garcia (never had his own band)
Michel
Some of the newer guys:
Sexappeal
Asdrubal
Manole (One of my favorites, has been around as a musician for a long time. Played piano for years with Banda Gorda; had a merengue band after that, and after a few years off, is now back as an all salsa band, which is what he should have done from the start. A great, great, salsa singer!)
