Why?
Baseball and Basketball will cost more than the rest of the teams put together and not win anything.
Medals will be won by Judo, Tae Kwon Do, Boxing, Womens Volleyball, Weightlifting, and perhaps one or two in Track and Field (No golds in Track).

There well be more delegates than athletes, mostly pols with connections.

so, what else is new??

Chi-Town was eliminated in the very first round of voting. So much for the traction of Michelle and Barack...NOT!!

I think I would like San Antonio or Dallas before Chicago...in reality. Even Miami would be better.

I think it'll be really interesting in Rio. I'm glad they got it. The first in South America. Neat-o!

BTW and FWIW: I'm surprised Obama spent his dwindling political capital on this effort without knowing Chicago was a slam dunk.

The positive thing is that we won't have Jay Payano sticking his phony smile in every photo opportunity overshadowing athletes. With Leonel finally gone the likes of Payano are history. I predict no golds, no silvers and perhaps a few bronzes in boxing and some of the fringe sports that nobody watches or cares about like Tae cuando(haha!) and boxing will be for mini weight categories that only Philipines rate on TV. Where's Joan Guzman anyway. Wasn't he the second coming of Tyson? Oh I know Pacquiao is afraid of him. Haha! If he stayed away from Payano and Leonel he could do better. Politics ruin fighters. Check Arguello and Mano de Piedra. Felix Sanchez will never again see gold. And I would like to see the fake Dominican open waters champion take a chance at the olympics to prove once and for all what I have said all along.. He can't swim faster than a sick turtle on mud. In case you notice, he ha never competed in real world class open water champioships. As for Brazil, making a big deal out of winning the olympics shows their second class. I'm glad Obama was embarrased. He had no business competing for something so insignificant for a US president. I'm not surprised. He is second rate too. He will lose Afghanistan, Iraq and Honduras. Lula Da Silva, a peon like Leonel made him look bad. What did the Pan Am games do for us? The olympics are overrated as a city or country builder. They only leave heavy debts and scars along with a sense of drug withdrawal after the cleanup. Chicago won by losing finally getting rid of Obama as spokesperson. He is now Mr. Loser.

Correct. Obama has nothing to do with this. He went as a good-faith gesture as the President and gave a good speech.

This was more, like it always is, about backroom politicking than Obama "losing it" for Chicago. South America was due a summer Olympics and this was just their time, that's all.

And it wasn't just Brazil who was throwing their weight into it, it was others in South America also. Many vested interests converged to get Brazil the games. It happens.

Back in 1995 Colombia hosted the cycling world championships and everyone complained until the end-the crime, the political instability, the poverty, the lack of infrastructure, the altitude-blah blah blah.

Guess what? Everything went off without a hitch, and the course route for the men's professional race was rated one of the top five all-time championship routes.
