Talking Nathan’s hot dog sandwich w/mayonnaise and corn…

Born and raised in Chicago, there is no way you don’t become a Vienna hot dog junkie. After going to all the usual markets here, all I found were pork, chicken or turkey hot dogs. NO all beef anywhere, ….so I thought. Happened to wander upon a little store called Omaha Gourmet in Santiago. They showed me their excellent selection of U.S imported meats and many items you never see in the always mentioned Mercado’s. All of a sudden low and behold, Nathans all beef hot dogs, every bit as good as Chicago’s Vienna. They even sell the thin American hot dog buns. I loaded up thinking these with a big batch of homemade French fries would be an afternoon delight. My girlfriend desecrated the hot dog sandwiches with mayonnaise and corn….mayonnaise and corn. If you are a hot dog sandwich lover, you will understand. I am now thinking about getting a new girlfriend, absolutely no respect for the Great American Hot Dog.

What, she didn't add hamburger meat, lettuce, tomatoes, cheeze whiz, peppers, cooked cabbage, onions and catsup? - she can't be dominican.

BTW, thanks for the great info, would you any chance have a phone number or the general location?

thx

Default Any good weiners for sale at PriceSmart?

Now we have a hot dog thread to go along with the hamburger threads!
I do find it odd that there is no locally made product that remotely resembles a real hot dog in flavor. But then again there isn't a locally made cheese that resembles real cheese in flavor. Glad to know that those who need a hotdog fix can eventually find a "dealer". Anyone tried any of the imported hot dogs at PriceSmart and can report on what they thought about them?

On a lighter note: "Oh I wish I were an......"

Corn on a hot dog?

Omaha Steak is mega expensive in the US. I'll bet it's off the chart here...

I'd kill for some REAL Italian and Jimmy Dean-type bulk/link sausage here...

I haven't had honest-to-God sausage and biscuits is a couple of years.

They sell Jimmy Dean sausages in the frozen section at La Sirena
Check out Omaha....I think you will be pleasently surprised.
Excellent prime rib...490 D.P. per pound ($13.57 per pd.)
Imported rack of lamb...One rack...850 D.P ( $23.54)
Imported leg of lamb....I forgot the price, sorry
Real Italian sausage.... " "
Nathan hot dogs 1 lb pkg. (8) normal and cheese filled.....250 D.P. ($6.92)
You have to expect imported food will cost more.....but if you have to fill that craving...this is the place. I believe I know the wherebouts of most of the best and hard to find food in town,... for cooking.

So I wouldn't be giving anybody here false information, I emailed Omaha Steaks in the U.S. asking if they had a sales outlet or franchise here in the Dominican Republic. Since their business card logo is identical even stating since 1917. This was their response....

Dear Valued Customer, Thank you for contacting us. We apologize for any inconvenience. At this time we do not have an Omaha Steaks Retail Store located in the Dominican Republic. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us via email or by phone at 1-800-329-6500. Sincerely, Julie Davis, Omaha Steaks Customer Care

I guess anything goes here...Even Omaha steaks....BUSTED!!!!

What? Nathan's dogs with mayo and corn? This insult is totally unforgivable. I suggest you dump her.
Now I was able to bring a huge pack of nathan's hot dogs from costco on my last trip to usa. Its a 5 lbs bag (I think) with 36 doggies inside. I have already killed like half the bag.

For the record, the stores in the DR are Omaha GOURMET, not Omaha STEAKS... I do believe they are affiliated, but not the same store. Believe it or not the steaks are actually cheaper at Omaha Gourmet than they are via Omaha steaks website, however, Ive tried several cuts...The rib eye, the choice strip and the select strip...and while EXCELLENT by most standards, I don't think they are the same as the Omaha Steaks you get in the US...I think in the US, they sell the frozen US PRIME Angus, and send the SELECT and CHOICE to their Omaha Gourmet affiliates.

Besides great steaks, and Nathan's hot dogs, they have 100's of other imported gourmet items, including snacks, spices, candies, other meats and fish, etc...

I still prefer Chef Pepper for steak and other meat though (great lamb chops, baby back ribs, etc)...but be sure you choose your steaks individually..they vary greatly in trim...i.e. how much fat is included on the edge of the steak...and the frozen tuna steaks at Nacional are better and cheaper than Chef Pepper
