This guy is such a crook !!! But then, he is right in his strategy : most poor Dominicans will vote for a guy who shows up from his helicopter and hands them a 50RD$ note...

I suppose the main difference with Aristy is that he does it so blatantly and shamelessly. The other parties do it too, but they are subtle in comparison!
All this achieves is to delay the country's development.
Speaking to community activists who understand that poor people themselves have to get involved in tackling their problems, the complaint is that most people just don't get off their backsides because they have been conditioned into waiting for handouts from politicians like Aristy and certain charitable organisations that perpetuate dependence.
If it wasn't for this, say the community leaders, you would see much more progress, with people in poor areas taking initiative, lobbying the authorities for the services they are entitled to, and doing their bit for the community's development.
The younger generation, who are still relatively untainted, will fall prey to this and another generation of passive dependent poor people is born.
Politicians like this should be tried for treason.

That photo just about sums up a big chunk of the Dominican Republic!
Poverty, corruption, classism, ignorance, racism all in one photo.

If anything will make us look backward, a photo like this will do it - good grief.
I had heard from a friend here that Aristy pulls stunts like this. Funny thing is that if he gets the "chair" the dole will stop cold for sure - on the contrary, "payback" time will begin to recoup his investment.

I agree 110% with what has been said above. My question is couldn't an institution like the JCE legislate rules that could prohibit this disgusting practice.

Because they all do it, to some degree, so the JCE wouldn't stand a chance. I think that they should have clamped down on him for using the LMD helicopter in his primary campaign, and from which he reportedly rained down money on the crowds.
