No offense Nals, but I just checked out a home that was built in 2000 in Jarabacoa that the owner spent 25 million pesos. It is also smaller than this home on about 2 and a half acres. You need to come down here and talk to realtors before speculationg on the real cost, as a friend of mine has been doing (through a local Dominican) in the area for the last two months or so. There is very big demand for property in this area and I'm sure Nuria has it right. Please don't try to muddy the water for this no good worthless education minister.

Chip, no further comment needed. NALs is an expert at defending the indefensible, and has just taken this to an even more absurd extreme.

When in hole, stop digging.

There are numerous house for sale in the Jarabacoa area that are for sale from 5,000,000 pesos upwards to 50-60 million pesos. There a larger, more extravagant house for sale on the outskirts of town for 16,000,000 pesos. While I don't agree entirely with NALS he does bring up a couple of points. Based on her past reputation and the fact that this house was started in 2002 and is still a work in progress, it is entirely possible that this was done with their own funds and not the peoples. If the reporter is doing a complete investigation it should be complete, not full on conjecture.

I wasn't opining as to whether the education minister misused funds(I wouldn't doubt it), but rather that the house is a lot more expensive than what Nals says. I don't care for the lady given her typical "don't blame me" attitude here and I hope they investigate her and if she has done wrong, lock her up for many years and return to the State what she took.

The point here that it is all the more shocking when even the ostensibly 'serious' politicians, like Alejandrina, are at the trough.
It is widely believed that her recent minor injury was staged so that she could conveniently withdraw from the public eye for a couple of months.

Why hasn't she sued Nuria?

While it is quite apparent Nals love of his country(I love it too) his lack of balance and one sided defense of everything that goes on here is extreme and calls into question his objectivity in otherwise informative, if not somewhat verbose, posts. As much as I love my country, I have also been openly critical as well, including poor decisions that are still costing us. I just like to distinguish between conspiracy fantasy and just plain poor perfomance, planning and/or lack of foresight. According to Nals, the Dominican government is never guilty of any of these flaws.

You are basically saying " march the guilty B...t..d in " The article by Nuria suggests possible irregularities with the way money was obtained to build this house. Perhaps this is true, but why is Nuria going after a small fish when she could be going after the guys running the PRD and flying helicopters. Pepe is still walking around and so is Hippo- two very large thieves.
IF she is guilty I agree- lock her up, but not until they lock up these much bigger theives.

On the contrary, in fact I haven't seen the article. I just have little faith in Dominican politicians, and this one in particular, especially after she rebukes criticism of the education system here by merely changing the subject. Fact is she sucks at her job, kids go to class here and sit on coffee cans and use cinder blocks as desks - this isn't conjecture. I think Nuria should take aim wherever she can, and this is no small fish mind you, as there are very few gov't. ministers in this country

What I'm talking about is 800 million in the case of one house(Mr PRD) , and 10-40 million in the case of this minister. I have been in several public schools and have no doubt about what you say, however my observation has been chairs and tables, and desks. If the government was putting the amount of money required by law into the school system it would still take 20 years to catch up, or even come close to where they should be. I'm fully in agreement with you that Nuria should go after corruption where ever she finds it, I just think in this case she hasn't proved it exists. As far as not accepting criticism; this is a national issue, perhaps cultural. Dominicans can't accept criticism. You might as well slap them in the face. For those Dominicans that will take offense at this, truth does sometime hurt.
