The size of the constituency certainly is a factor in determining the wages of the politician. A mayor/commisioner representing a constituecy of 50,000 people will typically make less than one representing 500,000 people.

Any way you slice it, the wages politicians make here in the Dr is outrageous and uncalled for.

I see Nals has still not answered my question as too why the politicians here need to make so much more than their counterparts in the private sector, the direct pool from which so many come. I guess this is just maybe a little too inconvenient for him to address.

Errr .... excuse me Gentlemen I seem to have taken a wrong turning here somewhere. Could one of you kindly fellows (preferably not the Party Political Broadcast one as I don't have all day to dissect his spin) please direct me to the PUBLIC WORKS 2004 - 2008 thread? Thanks. ~ GWB.

But this is it - no? Public Works 2004-2008 = politicians' salaries.

I already did. Compare apples to apples and you will see little deviations between the pay in public sector vs. the private sector in upper management positions.

Is that so, well don't tell that to a senior engineer at Corasaan here in Santiago, he makes a paltry US20k while his collegues in the States are making 85k plus easily. How much are the politicians here in Santiago making? I used to think you were a person of principle, but I can see that even faced with cold hard facts that you are not.

How much do you think the Presidents and CEOs of Grupo León Jiménes or Grupo Ramos or Grupo Abrisa make relative to that of the President of the DR?

Try the vice-presidents in the various department in such enterprises?

In many of those cases, the figure are superior to what is paid in the government (or even in the US) in similar positions of power/responsibility.

Again, compare apples to apples.
