No doubt, but then again ignorance and lack of funding are the limiting factors. To a tee, poorer Dominincans don't have a clear understanding nor confidence in the Democratic system to believe they can make a change.

And what if they really want to? Who can they vote for that will make a change? Only rich people get involved in politics (because of funding) and they are content with the status quo. If a poor person gets involved, how long can he last on getting RD1000 donations from rural communities of 100 people - not long for sure.

For all of you doubters out there about the abuse of public funds for private use, an acquaintance of my wife here in the DR has an uncle who has become very rich since he became a politician and has even confided in my friend how he siphoned off more than US1M of funds supposedly for construction projects. This isn't conjecture.

Ok Randy, you are going to run for Senate in the US and for 60K a month I will be moving to the DR and running for Senate there. Frank the Tank para Senadore.

I do remember telling a high school guidance counselor that I wanted to be a dictator of a banana republic. So I guess this will move me one step closer to that career goal.

Dear Chip;
I totally agree with you. Count me in if you decide to do something about it. I think that we have the resposibility to help this country make a change. We love the weather, the air, the blue sky, the beaches and so on - so we have do something to make this place better for all.
Thanks

Frank,

There's no way in hell I'd go into politics in either country. It's much more fun to sit back and judge them both.

If you're referring to my blog, the "campaign" is entirely "tongue in cheek". It's just a place where I rant.

PS: You have my vote unless you're a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.

As for the GOP to win this coming November 2008, the American people will need to forget or ignore the past almost eight years now, of George W. Bush and that's going to require a miracle. After what I looking their speeches in pollclash?. Well the American people forget all the scandals, corruption, Iraq, the treatment of our veterans,etc.? for the miracle to happen.

What does this have to do with the pay of a DR Senador?
