He's supposed to be a good man. Problem is that ANY one candidate needs a coalition to get elected, and part of developing that coalition is acrueing "debts" that must be repaid. This is even true in the enlightened First World where the corruption is still there, just not so obvious, hidden in legislation away from the public pervue.
"What's in it for me" is the way of Democracies, so it seems, when the public (and/or their representatives) discovers they can vote a piece of the public treasury for themselves.

And when you don't want to pay these debts... they will come and collect your life. Isn't that so?

Pretty much, "life" being somewhat of a metaphor....
That is a weakness of a coalition-driven multi-issue candidacy: often one must compromise core principles for political expediency. But that is the Real World.

I'm tired of people saying " first of Americas"?? One of the oldest?? There are Olmec and Mayan cities that are over 500 years older than Santo Domingo !! So Santo Domingo is neither the " first of Americas" or " one of the oldest" ! Make things clearer please, Santo Domingo is the first EUROPEAN-BUILT city of the Americas, that is a big difference !

About Guilllermo Moreno, Hipolito was perceived with that same image, a honest man, straight from the countryside who has a knowledge of what poor people need. Not saying that Guillermo Moreno is the same, but I'm just saying the semejanzas in the perception of both

At least Moreno has a proven track record of low tolerance for corruption.

Guillermo Moreno would be an excellent candidate for president again in 2012. He did very well in these elections considering the short amount of time he had campaigning. As was mentioned before, it will be very difficult to get a man like this in office due to a lack of funds and his promise to fight corruption. A real promise to fight corruption, not like the promise Leonel Fernandez gave out.
I voted for him in this election and I hope to help him work towards his next election bid. Below is a letter he wrote to party members, supporters and the media after the elections. Sorry it's in Spanish. This is only the beginning...
compañeros/as, amigos/as:
Guillermo Moreno

Why isn't Guillermo Moreno here on the forum dicussing the issues?. Everyone on the forum is always talking about him. If he doesn't speak English he could have somone help him out, I'm sure some members know him well. I just don't know if there is anyone here capable of making different. Politicians usually forget where they come from when they some power. Those Dominicans that are capable and well educated won't take the chance or don't want to get involve.
