The DR1 News reported the other day that the President suggested that the US be more truthful about the extent of the economic crisis. Did it appear to anyone else that he was really attempting to cover himself after the optimistic forecasts he has been making by suggesting that he did not understand the magnitude of the problem? It just makes no sense to me that the DR economy, as dependent as it is on US tourism and remittances, will be unaffected.

There are 9.5 million people here. $200 million is $20 each. That's nothing.

He's just playing international politics, making statements that's he's one of "the boys" of the new Central American Union.

He knows exactly what the deal is.

Default Decisive Victory for Chávez in His Bid to Lift Term Limits

I believe the results in the Venezuelan referendum will have an influence in other LA countries. Leonel is definitely watching but I wish he would also do a referendum on term limits.

Quote:
CARACAS, Venezuela — President Hugo Chávez handily won a referendum on Sunday that will end presidential term limits, allowing him to run for re-election indefinitely and injecting fresh vibrancy into his 10-year-old socialist-inspired revolution.

About 54.4 percent of voters supported the proposal to end term limits for all elected officials, with 45.6 percent voting against it, electoral officials said in their first report late Sunday, with nearly complete returns.
