yes curiosita,
that's what i meant, those fines here in the DR are cheap.
heck, they are less than a temp residency plus a year later a permenent residency plus every 2 years renewal plus the travelling to do so aso aso.
the penalties should be higher than the fees for the persons who go the legal way.
to get the temp residency legally for the first year costs $1.000.- - $1.500.- if done with a lawyer, plus the little extra costs of travelling to the capital aso, so the fine for somebody who stays here 1 year illegally should be in my opinion a $2.000.- and not cheaper than to go the legal way.
happy weekend
Mike

I guess I'm looking at RD$4,000 on Wednesday!

Hey, it was still cheaper than getting residency which I would recommend for anyone planning on living here. The times they are a changin'.

All the input is great. My 2 cents is; I have been escorted to an exit (by police) in many Nations for one reason or another when overstaying my Visa. DR's penalty is very light. You don't get your passport "red stamped" etc. for over staying and you are not banned. Enjoy your time here, respect the folks and happily pay the very light fine.

absolutely right buddy.
your 4000.- pesos fine is around 115 US,
that's what i (living in punta cana) would need to fuel my car for 2 rides to the capital city to do a temp residency with a lawyer, just for the 2 simple rides and i would need two full days to do that travel.
while i am against the cheap fees i have to add that you did it absolutely right, our laws still just show the small fines so why you should've made a residency for your stay as long as you don't plan to drive a car or such>
and i also agree on your last point:
times are changing.
and to be honest, the gubmin really urgently needs to take care about more important stuff than just the catalog of visa fines, lol.
how's the weather down there,
here on the east i wear still a sweater all day long and due to heaviest winds i still can not go fishing, and now would be the time of the year to make those bucks with the business.
