Mr Lu, I did a search on Jarabacoa and found this thread along with your comment above....just need to say that I agree with you 100% on this....I lived in DR for 30 years and returned to US 6 years ago. I never got used to the Dominican mentality that "that's the way things are". I tried organizing a women's peaceful protest against the extensive and unending blackouts once and the responses were "I can't do that, my husband works for the govt, or my son is in the military", etc. This is just an example. Never quite got this. I miss many aspects of the country, and have actually thought about returning, but the system keeps me away. Very much so.

Corrupt, egoist, egocentric, dumb, incapable, ignorant and not well meaning governments are elected into office by a corrupt, egoist, egocentric, dumb, incapable, ignorant and not well meaning VOTE.

As long people vote based on their PERSONAL needs, they will elect somebody centered on it's personal needs.

There are so many ways to say it... it always ends up biting it's own tail.

NAL's mentioned "modernization" ... LOL! (Please define "modernization" when 90% of a nation is left out on purpose!)
Seriously, as long a deep and globally reaching education reform does not produce a new Dominican generation of conscious, intelligent, capable, knowledgeable voters with a "horizon" across ALL social and geographic levels, this nation will continue to accept the lack of REAL debate, tranparency, capability and well meaning of the current "political class" aka. bunch of tiguere with ties blood suckers (not to mention other things they all suck IMNSHO, since this is a family forum).

But then, which of these tiguere governments will really mistakenly educate this nation so they won't ever vote for them again?

Maybe, someone's esposo IS afteral right to fear, things won't likely change?

... J-D.

We as concerned Dominicans we need stand up and voice our opinions to the proper government departments if not go to the newspapers. What we need to do is stop the talk and walk the walk. If we need changes in our system and we all agree that we do then we must get involve. lets cut the rhetoric and get moving.
