Lightbulb Electrical problem to be solved in two years?!?!?!?

After meeting with Leonel, IDB and WB announce solution to electricity problem in two years with first disbursement US$82 million.

Santo Domingo.- The General manager for Mexico and the Caribbean of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Gina Montiel and the manager for Latin America of the World Bank (WB) Rodrigo Chaves; announced this Monday's afternoon at the National Palace that the technicians and international specialist of those agencies, will present a plan to the Dominican Government in order to modernize the electric sector. They indicated that if the authorities comply with those plans, the country would resolve the electric problem in a two years time limit.

They informed that the first disbursement would be of $82 million dollars, but the complete plan will be presented in the next two months.

The representatives of those agencies spoke in a press conference in the National Palace. After participating next to two extensive delegations in a meeting with the president Leonel Fernandez, which was prolonged for more than five hours.

The IDB and the WB will present the details of the plan in a two months time limit, although already they have practically defined all the elements that will be involved financial and technically.

In the meeting also participated the vice president Rafael Alburquerque, the secretary of Economy Temistocles Montas and the secretary of State Vicente Bengoa.

For the Inter-American Development Bank (BID) participated besides Manuel Labrade, Rafael Rodriguez, Jesus Tejada and Viviana Blanllot.

While for the World Bank Roby Senderowich, Juan Miguel Cayo, Mauricio Bussolo, Maria German and Pedro Eantmann.

The meeting initiated at 12 noon and ended at 5:05 in the afternoon.

Pfffft...

That's 600 Jeepetas and a bunch of new villas...

HAHAHA! So true!!
And here is my dilemma: even with 24 hours electricity, how are they going to make the "70%" pay for it??
If they would fix that thing first there would be no electricity problem.

I see they covered their butts on the above press release "if the authorities comply with those plans". Compliance to a plan is not in the Governments vocabulary, unless it involves graft, employing your family, not paying taxes etc.

I have forgot how many times I have heard this type BS in the past 10 years.

Don't get me wrong, I truly hope their exceptions are turned into reality, but based on the past, it has around a 90% chance of failure. Sad but true

Please note that this saving money plan involves the electricity sector BORROWING a further $82million from the World Bank and Interamerican Development Bank. I notice that above they are referred to as "disbursements".
