Spin doctor caught in the act

Minister of the hacienda Vicente Bengoa was singing a different tune this afternoon after the morning papers headlined the 891 million peso shortfall in tax collections.

He said that the real figure, so far in 2009 in closer to 10 BILLION (okay 9.9+) pesos shortfall. He said that when he talked to reporters last night after the meeting with President Fernandez he said that the 891 million was the shortfall to 18 August, but he then clarified that by saying that that money was the shortfall just for the month of AUGUST...

Don't you just love how these folks have to spin everything>>?????

I don't know, I've been watching the Los Haitises thing and it's getting a lot of people upset from across the spectrum. You see it on tv and hear it on the radio and see bumper stickers all over the place. Not only that, they've got the DR expat youth involved via forums, like Univision. One or two successful pressuring of the government by it's constituents is all we really need for people to get a taste of how democracy is supposed to work - ie, do a good job or find something else to do after 4 years.
