I remember when Leonel took over from Hipolito, and the only thing that his team could spout off about was the fact that Hipolito had more than 300,000 government employees when he left office. Shortly thereafter, the new government had upwards of 360,000 on the payroll.
If I'm not mistaken, the last numbers I heard this summer were on the order of 600,000 employees. I guess the additions are necessary for social justice, or to prevent civil unrest, or perhaps activities which Golo might be warning of...

Just this thought. I read most of Pichardo's defense of the Metro and one thing struck me>
IF Metro I is losing +/- RD$15 on each pax, why should it lose any less on Metro II>?
That would mean, if Pichardo's thesis is correct and 200,000 people do use the system on a daily basis 5 x a week. that would mean a RD$15 million loss a week, 10 weeks =RD$150 million; 50 weeks = RD$750 million....seems to be a major waste of money...
But it makes Fernandez feel good.
Spin doctors seem to have a knack for covering up the idiocies of governments....
Sorry, but i do not buy it...
65% functional illiterates = corrupt government for a long time to come. And you wonder why they do not spend money on education???

Man you sure you read Pichardo's Metro defense?, cuz that's not what I read. Maybe you read the same way Chuck Norris does, staring down at the computer until you get the information you need.
