I must admit that dodgy electricity supplies and the odd tropical storm has meant that I go through computers more quickly here - but I haven't seen Dominican Luddites roving the country smashing up technology.
So I do not understand what do you mean.
Please explain.

Luddites??? Wow, there's a term from the past. I'll bet you sent many readers to Wiki.

Good work!

Default the olpc

Certainly these are all valid points.. the OLPC project requires the GOVERNMENTS to order and purchase and be involved in training teachers in how to use them as an adjunct to their classroom teaching..... I think that Leonel has really been trying to put an emphasis on the use of technology to help in education and I think that this project could really help here since it does allow the kids to move along at their own pace. If you spend more time on the pages you will see that there are many other skills that are taught there...

Anyway the OP is no longer with us...(I inquired, he was a sock puppet who had already been banned) but I did want to make it clear that this was not some sort of scam but a valid international educational program......

of course, chalk and boards works, too.

i agree with andy about them being broken. i've spent 20 years sending things to the DR and it amazes me at how fast things are broken. solar powered walkway lights, nice item for finding your way home at night in the campo, no moving parts, broken, and then they say that they were inferior quality. electric can opener, broken, it was not good quality they say. really nice kitchen knife now ruined from opening cans. wooden chair broken. gas grill, filled with charcoal when they ran out of gas, ruined. the list is long.

Technology alone is not going to solve the basic problem of illiteracy.
the official literacy rate is suprisingly strong, with close to 90% in adults and 95% in youth.
