Default Import Car

Hello,

My husband is leaving to DR this week, to investigae the cost of starting his small business in DR and moving us their in 6 months if all goes well.

He would like to take his Dodge Durango with him... so that he can commute.

1) The car is still being financed... How can I ship this to D.R.

2) Any suggestions on good Car shipping companies?

3) Aside from shipping cost, what kind of taxes/duties/customs would I have to pay.. The car is for personal... He has no plans of selling it there.

4) How about registering the car and car insurance in DR? Any suggestions?

5) Should I have car insurance from the D.R. before I can even ship it?

Need as much information on shipping a car from Miami for personal use. And yes, my husband will be applying for his residency before we make any moves. His parents were originally from the DR.. so I understand his can request immediate residency and better breaks? Is this true?

Go to this section of the archives and read all the threads on bringing a car to the DR http://www.dr1.com/forums/search.php...der=descending

Expect to find 100% recommending that you sell the car and buy another here. Doing otherwise is a nightmare that will break your bank and ruin your move to the DR.

The big nut is the hassle. There are taxes, clearly outrageous.
There are ways to get the best deal, but even that will be expensive. The advice given here is very reliable and based on hundreds of experiences...I would never import a car again!!

It is not possible to export a car that is still being financed. For you to export this car to the DR you would have to complete the payments. For more on the topic, also see http://dr1.com/living/settling/9.shtml
