Question Am i allowd to do this?

My friend wants me to bring a garden hose measuring tape and bags of Artemia [Brine Shrimp cysts] and a large shrimp net 140 m. Also some throw nets. If i put these in my check on bags and customs opens them what will happen? Will they be conficated or will i pay import taxes? Or go directly to jail?

Thanking you in advance!

Blanca

Garden hoses and measuring tape are widely available in the DR, why would you bring that added baggage for your friend? Are they trying to get the stuff cheaper at your expense (meaning you lugging it in your baggage?) I'm pretty sure throw nets are available too....

You will be paying import duties unless there is prohibition to import any of the items you mention, in which case prohibited items will be confiscated.

Default For Mr. Guzman

Mr. Guzman,
The [Artemia Brine shrimp cysts] Come in vacumed packed "coffee
cans" with the manufacturs name on them. Do you know if this will be a problem? I agree with everyone forget the other stuff. My friend wanted to know the prices in the US vs DR.

I just read an excellent article on importing goods into the DR by Pib in the Business Forum. Pib is a licensed custom broker and seems to know his business well. I suggest that you contact him with your inquiry.

Um, Fabio, er [sound of throat clearing], Pib is a woman who knows her business well, so Blanca should contact her .
Regards,
Keith

P.S. Actually, Pib is a goddess, but we won't go into that just now. Blanca might be too awed to contact her....

All these spam emails abot growing a bigger "equipment" must be getting to me somehow. Anyhoo, no problem Mr. Guzmán.

Blanca:
Unlike Mr. Guzmán that can check the Big Book with All the Laws to get his answers straight (helped by MANY, many, MANY, many... years of experience), Customs brokers do not have that advantage. Instead we have a Big Book with All the Laws That Were Written When Vessels Were Called Steams and That Nobody Pays Attention to Anymore. In many cases we actually have to consult with Customs what is the procedure du jour since they change it anytime they want. Lots of work if you ask me.

My educated guess is that you will not have any problem bringing nets and the hose. The Brine Shrimp cysts is an entirely different matter, I would have to actually send someone to inquire that in Customs and the Department of Agriculture, so in short, I don't know.

Pib,
That is my main question and concern. They come in coffee cans with the companie name and are vacumed sealed. At 20.00 US a pound i would hate like hell for some duffois custom agent to confiscate them. Please keep me informed.
Thank you very much for the info.
Blanca
