Question Age of Consent in DR?

What is the legal age of consent in the DR?

(By the way, I can't do a forum search on this because "The search term you specified (age) is under the minimum word length (4) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer.")

Lightbulb It's 18 years old

And a cedula is evidence assuming she's got one that is actually hers. Under 18 you risk the pokey in the DR and even back at home if they want to prosecute you on arrival and it happens.

For sex outside marriage, the age of consent is 18. Having a cédula is not enough, cédulas are issued from the time a person is 16.

A girl can marry after turning 15 with the consent of her parents (Art. 56 of Law #659 of 1944).

Default Mr. Guzman,

Even today, many Dominicans refer to living together as being married. In 1944, that must have been even more common, with civil ceremonies being relatively rare.

For the purpose of that law, is a civil ceremony required?

An answer to this question might clear up a lot of the mystery concerning such in the DR.

Thank you.

For legal purposes, living together is not equivalent to marriage except for certain matters as I have indicated in another post in this forum.

If there is no marriage (a civil or catholic church ceremony required), the age of consent is 18.
