You have to marry them eventually on a K-1 visa and they check it out pretty thoroughly that it is a real realtionship i.e. before granting the visa and I think it takes nearly a year to obtain - it is not for visitors at all. I think you have 90 days to tie the knot in the US or she's deported. That will kibosh a visa of any type for the next millennium once she's in the system as a deportee, I would think.

Anyway you can google this sort of question or just go to the INS web site and read the instructions there. She applies in the DR , you don't do it in NY for an actual visitors visa you know.

Here is a link to a mail group of people that are going through the K visa process or have gone. There is a wealth of information from the people. Also as the rules and instruction change often, you can keep up with the process.

The K fiancee visa is not used for her to visit NYC. So it would be worthwile to read up on visitors visas ( search in these forums on that as well) also, as they are no picnic to apply for or receive, I suspect they are infinitely faster to get (or to have refused) and than a K-1 visa.
