It is a very fascinating story and I guess I should also offer what info I have on this very interesting subject.....and I have quite alot!! When my mother was a young girl and living in Moca at the time two representatives of a Swiss bank spoke to her parents and told them that they were the true heirs of "El Baron de la Atalaya's" inheritance and that they only needed to go to Switzerland to claim it. My mother's aunt name was Eugenia Guzman and she knew alot about the Baron....among the things we knew and that nobody has mentioned yet is that the Baron was Jewish and that if the money is still in Switzerland it must be released along with all the other Jewish/Holocaust funds they still have in their possesion.

Default la herencia del barón ________

and you forgot to add: please send RD$_____ for processing and handling...

This scam is older than the hills, and the story is the same all over the Caribbean. Only the name of the 'barón' is changed, to protect the innocent.

Wow.. I agree. It is not even free advertising, just sick. Especially since the real lawyer, Mr Fabio Guzman, is already involved in the thread....

Mirador, maybe we should send that Mr an email, and he will repond to the send not RDS, but US___________for processing and handling...
then we post it!

Unhappy Atalaya's legacy

Sorry to throw a soap in the soup, but 6 or 7 years ago Swiss Government gave a general term to present proof of all old claims.

The time they gave ended time ago, and all that money, if it ever existed, legally belongs to the Swiss Government.

Default "The Guzman Inheritance"

Wasn't that a book by Robert Ludlum? Or Ken Follet? Or maybe it was a Dashiell Hammett story...

My name is Ariela Alcayde and my mother's name is Caridad Guzman who was born on 1913 in Moca, DR. When I was growning up I remember she always would tell me the story of when some dignitaries from Switzerland came to their home in Moca when she was in her 20's and announced to them that they were the true inheritors of Jose Guzman aka El Baron the La Atalaya. Her brother a very well loved but slightly ecentric Dominican poet, Octavio Guzman Carretero, turned them away and told them to give the money to the poor and needy of the world. He told them that his family had no need for that huge amount of money and no desire to make any claims on the Guzman inheritance.

All I can say is that I grew up listening to this story and many more along this line. I do know that Jose Guzman was Jewish and that he made his billions investing in the railway systems of this country. I believe that the best thing for us all to do at this point is to somehow touch bases and compare notes and perhaps we can finally get to the bottom of this whole 'novela'...We might just be surprised by the outcome! Anybody that has something to offer please write back.
