Default Expired Residency

Both my wife and I had cedulas and permisos de residencias in the 1970's when we lived the DR. We left in 1978 and never renewed the permisos again. Would anyone happen to know if we would have to start the process all over again or could we renew the long expired permits and cedulas? We are thinking of once again living in the DR. Thanks.

Let's wait for Fabio to make it official, but if I were you I would begin to start from scratch.

Default I do not think so but Fabio will know

I think I would go to Migracion and ask. It can't hurt and they do have good records. They have my original 1962 photographs still on file!!

If you have your old papers you can probably renew them, at least that would be my bet.'Let's let Fabio chime in here since he is the pro on this stuff...

Technically, you should start from scratch. However, I have known cases where the Immigration Departments has renewed, although none this old. In short, give it a try, preferably with somebody well-connected. If it doesn't work, well, you will have to do it again.
