Question immigration asking for original passort

When you apply for residency, are you expected to give copies of your passport or the original? My attorney is asking for the original passport AND copies....something doesnt sound right to me....or maybe its that I don't trust him enough to handle my passport....or both.....any immediate replies would be helpful, as he claims to have an appointment tomorrow afternoon with immigration...

My experience is that you must present your original passport. Copies are too easy to fake. You will get it back.
