Question legal paperwork/documents needed to work in the DR?

Hello:
I am planning on living in the DR for the summer. I am Bilingual and have experience in both business and teaching. I am hoping to be able to find a job/internship in a business setting or else to teach english as a second language.

I am a US citizen. Does anyone know if there is any legal paperwork that I must obtain in order to be eligible to work in the DR? I am only planning to be in the DR for 2 months, and am technically going abroad as a tourist.

Thank you...

J

As in any other country, tourists in the Dominican Republic are not legally allowed to work during their stay. If you come into the DR with a tourist card and start working without obtaining a work permit or residency, you are violating the law. Dominican immigration authorities, however, have been very lenient in enforcing the law.
