Default DWI Laws

What are the drinking and driving laws in the Dominican Republic?

What are the legal breakpoints for a person's blood alcohol level for legal intoxication and impairment?

It is ALWAYS adviseable to drive DRUNK here. That way you don't get so scared at what those drivers without licences or insurance are doing!!! Driving in a drunken state you must always have a few spares in the trunk ready to offer to any policeman that stops you for minor infringements - like bashing someone else's car or shooting 4 red lights!! - Grahame.

BushBaby is right on, you need to have a few in your system otherwise you will be a nervous wreck on the roads and get hit anyway. Drive Drunk and drive fast, Forget defensive driving and remember this, "A good Offense is better than a good defense", Pass every one you can before they can do something stupid and you hit them. I suggest grande Presidentes because you can toss them at the morons who cut you off as you pass by them, after you finish the beer of course

We have drive thru bars in Santo Domingo.

You will get a ticket for talking on a cell phone while driving, but not if your swigging from a bottle of scotch.

I guess the only time a cop is going to be upset with you, is if you're so drunk that you cannot find your wallet

I think your getting the message....

because you're too drunk to talk. Several months ago I was driving south on Máximo Gómez and came to a stop in the right hand lane at the lights at the Malecón just behind a police patrol car about 8:30 PM. In the left hand lane was a car that had come to a stop about 1 and 1/2 car lengths back from the light. The driver of the police car turned and looked over his left shoulder and reacted. He got out of his car and went to the other car's passenger window. The driver was asleep at the wheel, dead drunk! The cop yelled at him to wake him up . The cop chewed out the driver got back into his patrol car and pulled forward and to the right as the light had changed. I thought that he had probably told the drunk to pull over to the curb so they could get on with it. The drunk pulled forward and made a right hand turn on the Malecón and started down the street. The cop followed him and I kept my distance behind the cop. The drunk was driving slowly but weaving almost to the point of crossing into the opposite lane. The drunk gradually picked up speed and pulled away. The cop maintained a steady speed and off went the drunk into the night. I, stone cold sober, went home amazed.

To answer your questions, your guess is as good as mine.

Default an offer they couldn't refuse

My brother and a couple of friends were **** drunk going from point A to point B in SD to hang out at another spot. On their way they ran out of booze and it was only logic that they stop at a place to re-up. While they were there they started drinking some brews to see if they were cold enough when 2 cops rolled up and got out their patrol car. Asked every1 for their cedulas and started to harrass my brother and his group so they decided to counter the cops by offering some "cold brews" and right then and there the 2 cops drank a couple with them and left. My bro' and comp. jumped in their car and drove off.
