Default Affidavit for marriage

Hi my fiancee is Dominican and we are planning to get married. The
situation is that we live in my country, the Turks and Caicos Islands,
about 90 miles north of the DR. My fiancee needs proof of being never
married in the form of an affidavit. There are no Dominican
Consulates here so she has to go to the DR. Can you please give me
info on where she will have to go to do this and get the affidavit?
Also it would be great if you could give me some numbers that I could
call. She is planning on going to the DR shortly and it would be good if we have this info prior so that we can expedite the whole process.

Thanks

I think the norm for these things is you do an affadavit up in Spanish then go to the consulate and swear it and they affix the usual 23 rubber and sticky stamps on it for a fee of course.

To ask the DR government to prove something didn't happen would be impossible to imagine, e.g. check all records of who was (and of course outside the DR they wouldn't know) married in the DR over the past 30 years to find you weren't. Might be easier if he's divorced and then you can show the final order.

You might want to ask the T&C chaps what specifically it needs to say and in what language, I suppose that would be English. Since I bet you do it in espanol for the DR chaps to sign off and then you have to translate that to English and get the translation certified by someone else that the T&C folks find acceptable.

Also note you only find consulates of a country outside that country so the DR hasn't any of its own inside the DR. Maybe Miami? Or you need some sort of ministry of something inside the DR.

Any Dominican judge can issue the affadavit. It will cost some money. The more you pay, the faster it will get done.
