MR. GUZMAN-VISITING & RESIDENCIA SIN pasaporte
First off, Id like to Say that this is a very nice forum. Congratulations Guys on keeping it that way!
I am an American, living in America, interested in DR citizenship
I have several Questions For Mr. Guzman and anyone else who may be able to Answer
1. Is it still possible for me to visit DR without a Passport?
(I CANNOT get one period!)
2. If so, is it possible to get Residencia without a Passport
3. Is it possible to Expedite residencia and citizenship and obtain a DR passport more rapidly?
4. Is it possible to obtain Residency and Citizen status without proof of $500,000 DP or will a work contract do it?
I understand the process- apply for residency, take physicals etc, wait 1 year, do it all over again, apply for citizen status wait one year etc---
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
My wife and I are both Teachers- She is a Spaniard from Spain (American citizen)- She is a Special Education teacher and I have a Degree in Teaching English as a Foreign language. I/We would be wiling to work cheaply in DR, Citizen status is my ultimate goal. Im not neccesarily interested in citizen status for her- only for myself - My Spanish is fair, and Im sure it would be excellent given a few months in country
Thanks!!

Mr Guzman- Ive looked at many of your replies, and think it is a mighty fine thing you do helping others- If all works out, I imagine you will be first choice for an Attorney!

Yes, it is possible to travel without a passport but residence without a passport? I doubt it. When we went for our temporary and then permanent residency, we had to show our passports at every step of the process. This is kinda question number one at each procedure, show your passport so that we can see you are who you say you are.

Thanks Chris- So, how do people coming from other countires aquire residency if they don't have passport?
I feel like a prisoner in America. Im involved in no illegal activity, yet I cannot get a passport. This is going to become even more prevalent as the Government uses terrorism fear to fuel new laws.

You may know more than what I know, but as far as my knowledge goes, you need a passport for residency. As someone has said on this site once before, to change countries.. you'll be much more successful if you run to something than when you run away from something.
Perhaps you can tell us why you cannot receive a passport. I've lived in the US, I am married to an American and this news, that someone cannot get a passport in the US, surprises me.

Suprises me also. All you have to do is go to the post office and fill out the form and send it in. If you are being denied a passport there is a reason for it. Perhaps you are a prisoner?

Frankly this is pretty far-fetched, so fess up why you can't get one. You are a citizen, had a birth certificate, can fill out the form, so what's holding them back?
One of the stated requirements for DR residency is a copy of all the pages of the passport (this is common for other countries as well) and after the end of 2006 you can't travel by air to the US without one, either. So you better get this figured out.

But only as ricktoronto stated until the end of 2006 (or more correctly you will not be able to re-enter the US after December 2006 without a passport courtesy of the Homeland Security's Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative) and after December 2007 this will aslo include even automobile trips to Canada.

What country are we in ?
Homeland Security's Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative !?!? And to think that only in comunist controlled countries you could not move about without having your papers in order, hmmm? Looks like we're creating comunism again ... oops ! I let the cat out of the bag !!
Perhaps MrMaravillo would like to acquire a Puerto Rico Passport ? (don't laugh, it exists and the DR recognizes it). Crafty, huh? E.

He says in his post that he is in the US. He never states that he is a US citizen or in the US legally.
