Default Rules for DR charities/NPOs

Does anyone know how I can obtain a copy of or learn the provisions of the law mentioned above? Is anyone familiar with the general requirements for Dominican based charities and NPOs?

On my last visit to Sosua I met some people from a church in Montellano who are trying to organize a grassroots charity organization to help the poor and sick children on the North Coast.

These are sincere and well-meaning people, but they also appear to be amateurs as far as these things go. I’m not completely sure, but I suspect that they may be ignorant of the niceties involved, legal and fiscal, etc., in running a charity.

These folks are trying to do something good and I wouldn’t want to see them run into trouble for not knowing the rules. Or do these things work differently in the DR? Any information you can supply will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to ElPuma and especially asterix for your replies. This is exactly what I was looking for.

I would still like to hear from anyone involved with an established DR based charity regarding the ins and outs and requirements for operating such an organization. PMs are cool. Thanks

There is an organisation in Holland, they have a website, www.shdr.nl
the site is in dutch, but maybe if you send them an e-mail in English it won't be a problem, they have also a telephone number in the DR, which you can find on the side. They have done different programs, in the Maimon area.(north)
