Want to Know about Bueno Conducto
Hello Everyone,
I think I finally got this right and posted in the right place for new question. Anyways, my question is....My sister has been with a DR (dominican Republic)man that she has been with for 2 years. She has been there to see him 6 times already. She had originally wanted to start the immigration process for K1 visa (fiancee visa) a few months back but was unable to do so because the money situation just did not turn out like she had planned. But before she knew this would be the case she had him start to get some of the things he would need on his end for the lawyer passport, birth certificate etc. One of the things they were worried about was the "Buena Condocto" paper. He had said that he was arrested before a couple of times (nothing serious like drugs or deportation) I think he said fighting or something. But anyways he gave a fake name to the police when they arrested him. As I said they were worried to see if he would be able to obtain the Buena Conducto paper. Well he went to apply for it and a couple of weeks later he got it stating that he was clean nothing was found. So now they are worried again. So my question is....if the buena conducto came back good is there a chance that the immigration investigation will not???? How does this work???? Forgot to mention one thing, he has never been fingure printed or had a picture taken through the police.

What investigation do you refer to? The US isn't going to send the FBI to determine if he got arrested using a fake name. They are not likely to do anything, other than rely on certified documents and then have an interview with him to see if it is a marriage of convenience.

Thank you for answering me, I was begining to think that know one liked me for some reason. Anyways, my sister seems to think that they also do some type of background check. So I said I would try to help her in finding out if this was correct.

Yes Chula they might do a background check on him. I do not know exactly what this consists of, but they basically send an agent to check out if the person is who they claim to be and if they are living where thery say they are living. They might ask some questions of whomever they find at home.
If his police report has come back clean, and if his relationship is genuine, then he doesn't have to worry about any investigation (if one even happens.)

...umm and make sure that his police record STAYS clean because he will need to get a recent one once his interview is granted (currently about 12-18months after his application is received by the US consulate.)

Police certificates are good for 3 months, birth certificates are good for 6 months.
If you are just going to start a K-1 visa procedure, you will have to wait around 16 months. I would advice you to marry your guy, and do the K-3 or CR-1. The waiting time is about the same.

THANX FOR THE REPLY, I WILL LET HER KNOW. SHE HAS ALREADY HIRED THE LAWYER TO WORK ON A K1 SO I BELIEVE HER OPTION TO MARRY NOW IS OUT OF THE QUESTION.

Jess,
Check again. Police certs are good for 30 days. It says so right on the front of the cert. Make sure you have the correct one as well, they are blue and white in color.
Birth certificates do not expire, but they need to be inexteza format and legalized by the Junta Central.

Thanks Tim
I was told on Palacio de la Policia they were good for 3 months, thats why I didnt get it yet. We still have 7-8 months to go. Following your recomendation I will wait til having the interview date to tramit the dominican police cert.
About birth certificates, I have heard they expire in 6 months to avoid possible influence traffic. To me, it sounded as "we want to collect money periodically".
Even when I already have an in extensa fully sealed (150 dollars down the pipes) birth certificate from Peru, I will tramit a new one when I am about 2-3 months before the interview. It is better to be safe than sorry.
