Default Renewing residence

Hi.

My Dominican residency is going to expire soon, and I am now working in a different company than the one I got my residence through. (residencia por inversion)

Do I need to start all over again, or can I proceed as is?

I take it you are renewing a permanent residency. If so, bring your passport, cedula, old residency and a few RD$$ for VIP service.. It took me all of 15 minutes.

I take these to the JCE?

Will they care that the company that sponsored my original permanent residency is no longer active?

Not to the JCE, to Migracion. Unless there's something special "Noted" on your residence card, you should have no problem.

Unlikely. Now that you have permanent residency you are on your own as far as Immigration is concerned.

OK, great. I suppose I can do it here at immigration in Santiago, right?

Call before you go. My understanding is that foreigners renewing residency must go to Santo Domingo.

It's not clear from your post if you are renewing your permanent residency or converting your provisional residency into permanent after 1 year.

As Eddy says, renewing your permanent residency is easy. Just go to the Immigration Department in Santo Domingo with your provisional residency card and cédula and you should be out of there in a short time.

Obtaining your permanent residency for the first time is a different matter. The process is almost exactly the same as obtaining provisional residency: medical tests, letters of guarantee, etc.
