Exclamation help needed ASAP please read

yesterday my mum and dad where driving home they needed to take a left turn so stopped for a motoconcho to go past on the other side of the road, however the driver was talking to the passenger he didnt see my dads car, veered onto the otherside of the road and hit my dads car(which wasnt moving) at great speed. Both the driver n passenger were injured and taken to the clinic-dont know how badly they will find out today-but they seemed bad. amet came and made dad who was shaking and in shock drive the car to the police station, then they were going to lock him up till it goes to court this morning. his lawyer managed to get him home but as you can imagine both mum and dad are in a right state of shock, worried and praying that the two men will survive. it goes to court today. does anyone know what will happen? the accident wasnt dads fault, theres a wittness who said he will go to court and say what happened and the car is insured. my parents are petrified and im worried sick, weve heard so many horror stories about this kind of thing any advise and information would be extremely appriciated.

they need to make sure their lawyer is qualified. If the car is legally insured, and your parents have their driving-license in order, and either tourist-card or residency up to date, it shouldn't be such a big deal.

Anyway, it is fundamental to have a qualified lawyer to articulate the whole process. You might want to contact Fabio Guzman thru that very same board. I don't have his email/cell phone, but I am sure you'll find it somewhere in the DR1 website...

they won't go to prison.

Make damn sure that witness is there to testify.

Lesson # 8953 as to why driving in the DR is such a risky thing!

Motoconchos!! ARRRRGGGGHHHH!!

Default When in the DR, do as the Dominicans do...

The best defense in this country, is an offense.
That's what Dominicans do, as you will no doubt see in court, that the other driver will be blaming your parents.
Do the same to them.
Keep on the offensive, that you want them to pay for everything, that you want them jailed for being negligent, etc.
This is the only defense against their offense.
Eventually, they feel like they are getting off easy, to let it all go, as they know deep down that they were at fault, although they will never admit to it.

Rocky is right. Warn your parents they can expect the other side to blame them for the accident. Keep on the offensive.

Gee, not a week after warning of a similar experience in the DR in http://www.dr1.com/forums/showthread...645#post398645, I guess it is time for Robert to endorse the virtues of driving in the DR, compliment the Dominican jails and of course throw in an unbiased plug to patronize his car rental advertisers. Please let us know when the "victims" lawyer proposes a cash settlement to make this episode go away.

sarita, I'm sure they wil be fine. If it's not their fault and the papers are in order, they should have no problems.

Don't make this thread about me.
If you have something to say to me, do it via PM, email or to my face.

If you had read what I posted, I urged people to get out and see the country. I couldn't careless if they rented a car, borrowed one or used their own. By car is still the best way to see the DR, just use a little common sense and you will be fine.

Howmar, don't bother responding to me in this thread, it will just get deleted.

Next...

Geez Howmar, Who whee-weed in your wheaties this morning to cause this uncalled for comment? This is the risk that we all take when driving in the DR. Would you perhaps prefer that no-one drives? Or that no-one rents a car? Newbies get warned thoroughly about the risk of driving and renting vehicles, but, most of us drive here! Don't we? Accidents happen, it happens that motoconchos drive into stationary vehicles, and it happens that the driver gets blamed - always. So, deal with it already - life is a risk and driving in the DR is a bigger risk than perhaps driving in another place.
