Default The reason for long delays for new Cedula's

I went to Guzman's office 2 weeks ago to find out why the delay as I have been waiting over 6 months now as are a few others I know of..I was told that there was a change in the administration and all the applications are being re-reviewed by the new person assigned to do this...I was given an official document though showing I am on the waiting list and assigned a number.... I was told to be patient..Now I heard that they ran out of the plastic they use for the new cedulas...Welcome to the DR..........

Thumbs down

I am now waiting close to 8 months for my cedula with no end in sight. If I knew it was going to take this long, I wouldn't have bothered.

Maybe this is the reason for the long delay

Per DR1 Daily News:

Quote:
No plastic for cedulas

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has temporarily stopped issuing the cedula identification cards because the office has run out of the plastic it prints the cedulas on. The shortage of plastic is due to the fact that there has been an increase in the number of people applying for the ID cards after the May Congressional and municipal elections. Jaime Frias Carela, president of the Santiago JCE, said that the office had previously issued 150 cedulas daily, and that after 16 May they have been receiving 400 to 500 applications daily.

Do you mean Cedula?? Guzman can't help you with that. You have to go to the JCE yourself. Was there 2 weeks ago with a friend. Took all of 3 minutes from the time he walked in to the time he walked out with a new cedula valid for 6 years.

Allright I was answering No.1 LOL.
As for residency, I know people who have been waiting a year. I don't think it has anything do do with plastic........
It's certainly not Guzman's office that are at fault. The whole procedure is now more complicated. Interpol, DEA etc. are "from what I've heard" now involved. I renewed mine a couple of weeks ago. Real fast (2 Hrs.) but you should have seen the "Computer" checks they made. Nothing compared to a few years ago. Be patient. If you have a copy of your "received" application with the number, it is the same as having your residence (For travel purposes etc.)
