Question Question about Divorce

Hello everyone,

I know this has been talked about on this forum before, but since I am at work, I don't have the time to look into the threads at this moment. A friend of mine (US Citizen) married her Dominican boyfriend in the DR back in 2005. He is still living in the DR. After having problems for the last year, she has decided that she wants a divorce. The only problem is that he isn't cooperating with her and doesn't want to give her any information. She also can not travel to the DR. Is there a way for her to get a Divorce without having to fly to the DR? Any help/information would be great..

Well, why should others take time to do YOUR or your friend's homework?

Well, I guess someone ****ed in your cheerios/coffee this morning..... I thought these forums were for this reason..... To ask for inputs or put them out there..... It's not like I'm asking about "what's his name" from "this resort" and who is sleeping with him.... I guess I'll approach another forum that is more about helping than attacking..

Have a blessed day mountainfrog!

Your friend should check with a US lawyer about getting a divorce in the US.

Not sure why people feel if they marry a Dominican they have to get a divorce in the DR.

She used a US Attorney for the immigration paperwork and that did not work out. I think she feels that US attorneys have no idea of the regulations in the DR. Since she was married in the DR and the husband still lives there, I figured someone on this site would know of a way. Things in the end got pretty ugly with the two of them, so she does not want to fly down there to get one, nor does she want to have him process the divorce himself.....

It is my understanding that divorces in DR are very quick and simple...Look at Marc Anthony...

Here's is something I just googled....maybe this could help...

Dominican Divorce, Prenuptial, Separation, International Family Law

Good luck!!

So hard to talk to third party.

In case you didn't know, it's US laws that decides who gets into the US not DR laws so if her husband didn't get his visa it isn't because US lawyers have no knowledge of DR regulations since it has nothing to do with the DR but rather the US immigration weeding out who gets in and who doesn't.
