That sounds preposterous! I know their charges went up recently, but it used to be the equivalent of about £40 and it can't have gone up by that much.

Default Thats right

All the UK visa fees has increased, the indefinate visa is now £750 plus you now have to take the 'life in the UK' test to be able to get it. The cost of the test is £34 but without it it will cost you more long term as you will need to keep applying for further leave to remain until you pass or are able to get onto an ESOL course and pass that instead.

I've read the book and to be honest its not easy ... I don't know half the information and I'm British!

If I marry my Dominican girl in her country then apply for a marriage visa, does she still have to pass this new test? I live in the uk.

Default ...

Your wife will not need to pass the test for the initial 2 year spouse visa, but when you come to apply for indefinate leave to remain after those 2 years she will need to do the test. Best thing is to enrol onto an ESOL course or start studying the life in UK book as soon as she arrives.
