Default "Not Married" document?

I have read here that one of the requirements for marriage in the DR is a document proving (stating?) that one is not married. For an American residing in the US, what document would that be? - D

It's called a single status affidavit and must be translated by an official translator into Spanish.

The Single Status Affidavit ("Declaración Jurada de Soltería") shall be given before a Dominican Notary if signed in the Dominican Republic. If signed abroad, shall be authenticated at the nearest Dominican Consulate.
