Question A question on divorce

Hi,

I was directed to this site by an amazing wonderful friend of mine. (you know who you are )

I live in the UK, But married my wife in the Dominican Republic just over 3 years ago (We are both of british nationality) I had 2 children with my wife before we married, aged 12 and 5 now.

Things didn't go to plan, and after being seperated for over 2 years, I am looking to get divorced. We didn't own our own home, and had nothing to fight over asset-wise. My wife left to live with another man, and we agreed that I would keep the children and have looked after them ever since.

For the most part we have stayed amicable, and have settled into a routine of access and fortnightly weekend stays for the children with their mother. My wife has agreed to a divorce.

So my question is.... Would I be able to get divorced in the Dominican Republic seeing as we got married here?

Thanks in advance for any answers or advice,

Cheers!

Thanks for the prompt replies

I noticed that in certain places, the Dominican divorce is not recognised. I can find no mention as to wether it would be recognised and legal in the UK.

If anyone has any information to help me, I'd be most grateful

Cheers!

Why don't you send Guzmans law firm an email and ask.

Did you have your wedding legalised in the UK??? I'm not sure but if you didn't then you wouldn't be registered as married there in Somerset house....so would you need to get divorced here???? Could be wrong. Isn't that what Mick Jagger did?

Default Married or Not?

If your marriage in this country was not legalized in GB you won't need a divorce as you have not been married....
Unless you want to marry here again just forget about the Dominican papers and live happily ever after.

As far as I'm aware from all the paperwork when arranging the marriage, it is legal in the UK even if it isn't registered with Births Deaths and Marriages. Did Mick Jagger Marry in DR?

Thanks for the replies, I'll be drafting a mail to send to Guzman's Law Firm, just wanna make sure I leave no details out.

Cheers!

Edit- I guess looking into the not being legalised in the UK may be worth further investigation too.

Much Food for thought.... thanks again

Hi Flip Flop

I am new to these forums myself but have seen my friend go through a similar situation.

Her marriage turned out not to be legal in the UK which came as a complete shock to her

I think you really need to find out if this is the case for you, not saying it will but it has to be worth a try
