Default Car accident, bank scr*wed up bad

Car was bought with bank loan. Bank arranged insurance. Policy with Unika until 25 october 2006. November 2 we emailed the bank, concerned we had not heard anything about renewal. They were working on it they emailed back. November 9 we have a very bad accident, car total loss, no other vehicle involved. After getting out of hospital We call emergency number Unika and we get recording from codetel, all phones busy call later. We write emails to all people on Unika website and and people in bank. Friend later tells us Unika is bankrupt. Bank says no worry, Proseguros, We file accident report with police and Proseguros. We receive from bank replacement insurance carnet from Unika to Proseguros for previous year and renewal carnet Proseguros for current valid insurance. Much time goes by, no answers from the bank , not by email (not even after the reporting of the accident) We just went to Proseguros office and found out that our car is and was NEVER insured by Proseguros. And we do HAVE a VALID insurance carnet from this car from Proseguros !!

Any advise really really welcome !!!
