Legal Advertising and international law partnership

I recently visited friends in Santiago that are attorneys and I also noticed that there is no advertising for attorneys on street billboards or at the airport.
I also noticed that there were many individuals that travelled from the Dominican Republic to New York and had family in both countries. I have a very sucessful law practice in New York and am more focused in making a difference than in making money. I was most impressed with the people and I see great potential for advancement of this society in the future.

I am interested in doing the following and would like some input if possible:
1. Can attorneys from New York and the Dominican Republic enter into a
Partnership agreement? For example, if the attorneys in Santiago refer me a
child custody case in New York (let's say the person took the child to New York) can I enter into a fee split with them and how do I comply with laws regarding sending money to them;
2. I am also interested in donating a percentage of any money I earn (10 -15%) towards the education of children in the Dominican Republic. Do I have to handle that or is there an agency for this.
3. What are the laws regarding advertising for attorneys in the Dominican
Republic? My focus will be on clients that live in New York and the attorneys in Santiago will represent people from the Dominican Republic. I would like to advertise at the airport and on a billboard or 2 in Santiago for a start.

Many of the larger lawfirms in the DR already have partnerships with law firms in Miami and New York. Check out their websites, or look at their ads in the Yellow Pages from Santo Domingo or Santiago (or even maybe San Francisco as they seem to have a great number of residents with "connections" to Nueva Yol and/or legal problems there.)

And the back cover of the Yellow Pages is wide open for a lawyer to place his ad there (just as is done in most US cities, except usually directed to car accident victims or mistreated employees).

A lot of the child custody / "kidnapping" cases have been resolved by the introduction of draconian "permissions" now required for any travel with a minor, when both parents are not travelling with the minor. The new rules are a royal pain in the ass, but I guess for the few who ever experienced a problem, the laws brought satisfaction, and even more work to the US consulate to grant these permissions.

Billboards here might be an expensive proposition, between competing for attention among the millions of existing signs, etc that already scream for people's attention, and the fact that maybe only 10% of people have any connection to the US that might warrant any form of potential legal problems.

I am positive that other members here can point you to good places to give assistance to, who will truly help Dominican children in the way you choose to do so. Good luck with your endeavor.

Well, it can be done, of course, and as you have been told it already exists among the biggest firms here. Pellerano, Ruskin etc etc.

Advertizing is iffy at best since most Dominicans do not read. Not much at any rate.
Oh no, you say, sure they do. Yeah, right, I answer, so why in a nation of 9 million are only100,000 newspapers printed every day??????

Regarding channeling some of your fees towards education. A MOST worthy idea. There are several charities that can certainly use funding. The one that Supports Sosua Kids, The one founded by Father Emilio Tardif in Santiago, and I have a list of five more....maybe three hundred kids in all...

I do hope you can generate some clients and hunt down the evil doers....How about starting with the guy that shot down a cop and then got on a plane to NYC...?? After the judge gave him bail?????????????

Of course, it's done all the time. For example, when AA Flight#587 crashed in NYC in 2001, my firm partnered with the New York firm of Kreindler & Kreindler, aviation law specialists, to represent many families in their claims against American Airlines and Airbus.

You should look into the Dream Project (DREAM Project: Dominican Republic Education and Mentoring Project). My firm (Guzman Ariza) has been a "partner" for many years and I can guarantee you that your money will get to the kids that need it the most.

The regulations are archaic and not enforced. Advertising is permitted.
