Default two birth dates----very common

I know a number of people who have two birth dates. It must have been a common occurance at some point in time. It seems in every case that I know of, the actual date is 3 - 4 months before the stated one. In one case that I know of, there is a gap of four years??????? To justify this on the parents behalf, it was some sad story about the parents dying and the birth not being registered, so another family member just made up a new date (4th of July if you can imagine). Problem is, fourty years later this person still can't get his BC straightened out.

Just to add, all the info given re births in the US....it's the same or worse in Canada. Nobody would ever be turned away from the hospital and the baby is automatically Canadian if born on CA soil.

I'm one of those people. I was born in March but my birth certificate says May. It wasn't until I was in high school that I realized this and by then I figured it was just easier to leave everything as if I was born in May.

Something that I would like to see changed to the Dominican style of not being a citizen automatically.

Yup - my husband's date of birth - May 14th. His older sister? Dec 28th the previous year. His mother says he was premature, but not THAT premature!

Also, his younger sister claims that she is a couple of years younger than her official DOB, and that they just used the paperwork belonging to a baby born two years before her who died in infancy.

My husbands children, my step sons are only 8 months apart in age according to their birth certificates, when actually they are 18 months apart. Caused us big problems trying to get visas for the UK. He explained that the minute she had given birth to the first he had sex with her and then the baby was very premature!!!

They got the visas
