Default Dept. of Immigration in the DR?

First , I am a US citizen with children in DR . When in the capitol I went to try and get my daughter's birth certificate ,she's 3 , but because my new passport ,original was damaged, does not have my travel dates from that far back I was told I would need to go the department of immigration and obtain documentation for my entrance and exit dates during that time period. I am trying to find out exactly where that is and if there is any to contact them before I rerturn. Any information or insite would be helpful and greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It's the same building as the passport office, on the Malecón past La Feria.
