Why do you have to pay that kind of money?..Are you Dominican or have citizenship elsewhere as well?...My friend is Canadian and when she visited her husband when he was still here, she only needed his written permission. WOW that suck when you pay and its your own child!

my son is a doublecitizen. but the law says that any child residing in the dr who travels without both parents has to travel with a special "permission" -- basically a letter from a lawyer (notary) that my husband signs to say i can take my son. and most lawyers see us coming a mile away -- oooh, people with money to travel! 1,200 is actually the CHEAPEST i found after talking to about 20 lawyers. some wanted up to 5,000!

the actual 'permission' from immigration only costs 800 and is not so bad.

If your passport and your children's passport were stamped for the Dominican immigration inspector at the same time in the last entrance to the DR. you have the proof that the childrens came with you.
We payed for this document only the first time my wife fliw from the DR to state. They did it many time, before I get my Visa.

JJ.
