Default How can my hubby take my name?

Is it possible for a male in the Dominican to assume his wife's last name?

I have recently gotten married and my husband and I would like to have both mine and his last name. His first and mine second, which would technically have him assuming my last name.

Does any one know how we can do this?

Default hyphenated names

Interesting question, I am not sure how that works, however i had been thinking about 2 last names also and wonderd how that would work, I would want my current last name hyphenated with the mans last name, Is this common in the Dr ,and can it be done?

He can legally change his name to whatever he wants, but the adoption of a different last name on his case will be somewhat more difficult but doable.

There are several requirements to meet for a surname change...

Some people do it for artistic reasons, others for family adoption and so on...

In his case, you say he would keep his first surname (father's) and adopt yours instead of his maternal surname. I don't see why not! Contact a lawyer to follow the right guidelines to get this surname change approval without problems!

I never met a Dominican man that would ever change his name to his wifes name. Come to think of it, I never met any man that would change his name. What would the Dominican male friends of your husband think? I think he would be ridiculed. Think long and hard before you do this.

I know of a similar case. It is that of an outstanding Dominican scientist-corporate man who married an American woman. The Dominican adopted his wife's name and created a hyphenated last name. His last name was a very common Dominican last name, and by adding hers, he had a unique last name. They lived in the DR for many years and then he was hired by a major US corporation and they went to live in the USA. So, from his experience, would concur with Pichardo that it is doable.

Thanks for all the replies! My cunado and my sister did the same but without a hyphen or a space they put both last names together to make one. It's a sign of true love & respect I think! And yes it is VERY UNIQUE

I will definitely look into how this can be done. I just need to find a good lawyer I guess to do this?

i ask because i am in canada and here you wouldn't need a lawyer...just marriage certificate to go in and have the name changed.

not really...i was thinking the same thing & thats why i asked where they are right now

it would probably be easier to wait until he has arrived in her country....that is if we are correct in our assumption

after i married my husband...i just went in with our marriage certificate translated to english & had my name changed.

it was so easy & i am sure it is the same if it were the husband doing it...just depends on what country they are in

lol... yes I am in Canada. He's in the DR. He was willing to wait until he got here to do it, but I was talking to my sister and she said her husband had to get a lawyer here for him to do his name change.

The women can do it with ease, but for the men well they got to pay, so I figure it might be more cost efficient for him to this is the DR as opposed to Canada.

What do you think?
