Default Dominican Citizenship for US born son

My son's father is Dominican and we would like to obtain citizenship for our son who was born in the US. His father and I are not married but we are living together here in DR. I know my son is entitled to citizenship here but I'm not sure what we need to do to arrange this. Where do we start?

If you didn't register his birth at the nearest DR consulate within the first 6 months you need to make a declaración tardía (late birth declaration) in the DR.

We were in a similar situation with our son and the situation was resolved with the help of a lawyer.
