Hello DR1,

I'm trying to obtain my Dominican Citzenship as both my parents were born there and I was born in NY.

Does any one know aprox. how much it would cost to hire a lawyer to walk me through the process in Santo Domingo?

According to the directions I was given in the Dominican Consul it seems like a pretty cheap/easy process but since my spanish is not the best I want professional help along the way.

I called them and they quoted me a price that I thought was extremely high.

I've heard through word of mouth one figure and the price they told me was more than twice that.

check the lawyer shown on my profile's 'questions',
actually a residency even for a nforeigner who has no dominican parent/parents runs for less than 30.000 pesos, that would be around 900 US$. maybe it is much cheaper for the child of 2 dominican citizens, i don;t know, just ask.

That's exactly what Guzman Ariza charges: US$750 + 16% ITBIS, for a grand total of $870 (Dominican citizenship application for persons born of a Dominican parent).

thanks for the info,
like i am a foreigner i have not been sure if the rate is around the same for children of Dominicans.
