Default Starting a Business in the DR - Questions

Can someone guide me on where I can get more information on the legalities of starting a business in the DR, such as in punta cana or another city.
I'm a canadian, researching the opportunity to start up a business in the tourism market in the DR. I may align the business with a local partnership for the benefit of the local's knowledge of the DR.

However, I need to find more information on the legalities of operating a business in the DR as a foreigner, taxation, business culture (ex. tourism cartels preventing business), banking, permits, etc.
As a Canadian, there are a lot of red tape to start a business, but in the DR, I imagine it's much easier.

Can someone guide me to someone who either has started up a business in this area, knowledgable on this subject matter and/or resources available online where I can get more information.

Thanks in advance

If you think there is red tape in Canada, wait until you get here...

They "say" you can do something in 24 hours....yeah, right.

I think that the folks out there in the East (Fisher and rubio) will chime in with good info when they see this....

Otherwise you had best come on down and see foryourself since stuff over the internet is never quite like being there "boots on the ground" so to speak...

Good luck...

Your best resource will be DR1. We have a ton of stuff on the board and in the legal and business sections of the site.

Overview of Dominican Corporations

Do-it-yourself-incorporation

An Overview of Dominican Tax Law

The process of starting a business here will change significantly in the coming months.

Company categories, processes etc will be simplified and much more transparent. Fabio Guzman the lawyer that looks after the legal forum is part of the team that has written the new laws and currently educating lawyers.

Initially I was against the new process, but after speaking to a couple of lawyers and taken a good look at the details, it's a significant improvement over the old system.

you asked exactly the same on an other thread buddy, please keep it on one.
the links provided by Robert give you a overview about setting up a company/business over here, and like mentioned above, from now til june 2009 many things will change.
there are new company forms coming up to suit different company/partnership sizes.
and like i answered on the other trhead, the advice of HB is the most essential,:
come down here first and check it out life to get a feeling/idea about how things are done over here.

Mike, I don't want to ruffle your feathers, but personally I don't read all of the forums regularly. I would never encourage a person to ask a question in more than two forums. But if it is really relevant (like Tourism and Legal for a potential DR tourism business) I, personally would not view seeking two perspectives from this diverse DR1 community as posting out-of-line.

Forcing your question onto 3 or more forums, yes, that borders on spam.

Just my thought on the matter.

hi Kevin,
you got me wrong,
there's absolutely no problem to ask the same Q on different forums to get as many as possible opinions.
i was talking about the OP who posted exactly the same question here on this forum on an other thread.
and it is not a big deal anyways.
no feathers to ruffle,
no chickens around here, ha ha

I'd don't know about that, Mike, it seems there are chickens in tons of places in the DR -- in stores, in restaurants, in people's livingrooms. But, good to hear that your personal feathers are just in the order that you like to have them.
