and make sure they give you the opportunity to buy that ticket when caught, because the usual procedure would be to just get you seated on the same plane which brought you in, to get that paid is problem of the airline, they usually don't complain because they know they can get punished, so they just give you that seat and 1 hr after landing in PUJ you are in the air again, quiet, smooth and everything fine.
i gave assistance for translations on such cases several times here at the airport. once for a german fellow, 3 times for american citizens. you get escorted to the plane and remain seated while the ground-staff cleans the plane, the guard stays at the door til the passengers for the return flight are all boarded and the doors get closed, ready for take off. no possibility to get food or a toilet, the plane's toilets are closed while on the ground. usual time on ground for planes here at PUJ INTL is 60-90 minutes, no more.
Hi Shalena - I got lucky I guess - I flew to the DR 5 times before becoming a resident without buying a return ticket (from LA) = never even knew it could be an issue until I read some of the threads here - it never occurred to me to ask and no one ever gave me a problem - sorry you had to argue with 3 supervisors!!
